TAKASHI SUGAWA

Born in Gunma, Japan on Feb.11.1982. Takashi began his music carrier at age 11 with playing classical cello, then switched to bass by discovering Scott Lafaro and Miroslav Vitous when he was 18. in 2003, Takashi moved to Boston, MA to attend Berklee College of Music with scholarship and graduated in 2006 with Professional Music Diploma. In summer 2006, he toured in Costa Rica (with Alex Terrier, Akira Ishiguro), Austria (with Bim Clatox, free improv. unit), and Japan with his trio (Leo Genovese, Facundo Flores).
Takashi moved to Brooklyn, NY in 2007. immediately he met Masabumi Kikuchi and discovered his music and art, and influenced by his mastery art forms. In July, Takashi performed in the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland as a member of Jake Hertzog Quartet, toured in France with Alex Terrier. In 2008, joined to Ori Dakari's first CD "Entrances" recording session, released from Tzadik Records, NY. During his time in NYC, he has had numerous sessions with many great players, independent documentary film makers and off-broadway musical teams, etc.
Sep. 2008, Takashi left New York and moved to Tokyo, Japan. He has performed in Tokyo Jazz Festival 2009 with Aaron Choulai, and joined to Terumasa Hino's quartet since March 2010. Recently he has performed with such musicians as Aaron Choulai, Barney McAll, Michiyo Yagi, Noritaka Tanaka, Keisuke Ota, Chihiro Yamanaka, Mike Nock, Fumio Karashima, Toku, Tamaya Honda, Gene Jackson, etc.
